GROWventure Piggery comprises a 500-sow commercial piggery operation located at Brownlow, near Eudunda in South Australia, producing porker and baconer pigs under contract to one of Australia’s largest supermarket chains.

The operation is divided into two operations being the breeder complex and the grower complex, on 31.78 hectares and 196.7 hectares of land respectively.

The breeder complex comprises intensive piggery facilities built in the early 1990s with additional structures added during the period up until 2006. The improvements include a farrowing shed, weaner shed, mating shed, three dry sow sheds, feed mixing shed with office and staff facilities, grain storage, AI laboratory, water storage tanks and effluent ponds. The breeder operation is currently carrying approximately 500 sows plus progeny and weaners.

Accommodation at the breeder site includes a stone cottage with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and has benefited from recent upgrades to the kitchen. Ancillary improvements include a machinery shed, storage shed and stone barn.

Piglets produced at the breeder complex are transferred to the grower operation located one kilometre to the north of the breeder complex. The grower complex was constructed in 1999 through 2001 and comprises four grower sheds with a total capacity of 3,600 (approximately) grower pigs which are grown out to porkers/baconers and taken to Primo abattoir at Port Wakefield for killing. Additional buildings include feed mixing shed with office and staff facilities and extensive grain silos.

Both the breeder and grower operations feature fully automated climate control, feeding and cleaning systems. The farms systems and procedures are highly sophisticated and easily managed. The farm is compliant with industry and government regulations and we understand that an independent industry expert has commended the GROWventure operation as the “cleanest piggery in Australia”.

The land is generally flat and comprises reddish loams over limestone, ideal for cereal cropping, livestock grazing and hay production, which is carried out on the land that surrounds the piggery facilities under a share farming agreement.

Mains water and single phase electricity are supplied to the properties and backup power generation facilities are on standby.
The farm is remarkably clean and very well maintained providing for optimal animal health and production.

GROWventure Piggery is a substantial agribusiness enterprise that generates considerable income with an attractive annual net return. The operation is owned by a group of investors and managed by five full time employees and one part-time employee.
