IT’S OFFICIAL: Noosa’s Hasting St is Australia’s best Main Street.

It’s official. Noosa residents have said it for years, and now data from Wotif backs their claim — the beachside strip Hastings St is country’s best street.

Thousands of Australians voted in this year’s people choice awards — the ‘Uniquely Aussie Awards’ and the world famous strip has officially claimed the ‘Best Main Street’ title.

Hastings St beat out hundreds of locations across the country, including Queen St and Cavill Ave, with participants loving the beachside strip and its delicious foodie hot spots and boutique shopping.

Richardson & Wrench Noosa agent Frank Milat says there is very little stock available, with a search of realestate.com.au yesterday revealed ten properties for sale, starting at $619,000 for a one-bedroom apartment in the Sebel resort.

Traders report the strip is the busiest it has been in years.

“The prices are still going north and we’ve been breaking records now for a couple of years,” Milat says. “We sold a one-bedroom on the beach for $3.4 million and a three-bedroom unrenovated for $7.2 million.”

“Units on the other side street now regularly crack the million.”

The demographic buying into the strip has not changed, with buyers from Sydney and Melbourne investing for the lifestyle perks.

“It’s mainly lifestyle justified by income,” Milat says.

“The tariffs are higher; the occupancy is much higher and you can justify a much higher price.

The $7.2 million view.

“At the end of the day it’s emotion that makes people want to buy a beachfront apartment.

“If you can back it up with a 4% return then it’s both sides of the mind.”

He says the street is already very busy and traders are reporting it as the busiest they have ever seen.

Milat has listed a one-bedroom apartment in the On The Beach, which houses the world renowned Bistro C restaurant.

Thousands of nominations from Aussies across the country brought to light Australia’s true-blue larrikin spirit, combined with a touch of healthy local business rivalry.
