The legal battle over the Central Barangaroo development on Sydney Harbour that could block views from James Packer’s Crown Resorts casino hotel and a Lendlease luxury apartment project wound on yesterday, with the court hearing allegations that the authority overseeing the area’s redevelopment had not acted in good faith in its negotiations.

Private developer Grocon was told that a Sydney office skyscraper it is developing in its $5 billion Central Barangaroo project, which could block views from James Packer’s Crown Resorts project and Lendlease’s luxury apartments, did not have any height restrictions, a court heard this week.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Lendlease’s Australian Prime Property Fund Commercial have teamed up to swoop on the listed developer’s timber office building at Sydney’s Barangaroo South precinct for about $250 million.

The Barangaroo South urban ­renewal project has taken top honours at the Property Council of Australia’s awards ceremony, lauded for its design and sustainability features. 

A consortium of construction giants – Grocon, Aqualand and Scentre Group – will build the final stage of Sydney’s Barangaroo development, after winning the contract from the Barangaroo Delivery Authority.
