A Melbourne family has paid $22.2 million for a newly-opened Bunnings warehouse in Queensland, buying it sight unseen amid strong investor demand for ‘pandemic-proof’ commercial properties.

A Bunnings, fast food stores like KFC and childcare centres will feature in a $210 million commercial property auction as investors chase “pandemic-proof” essential services assets with long leases and big-name tenants.

An Officeworks, three hardware stores and fast food outlets for Hungry Jack’s and Pizza Hut are among 38 properties for sale in Burgess Rawson’s $132 million May portfolio auctions. The Sydney and Melbourne auctions also include six childcare centres across Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, two service stations and an Australia Post shop.

A waterfront pub on the Sunshine Coast and a Brisbane childcare centre each fetched more than $10 million as eager investors snapped up commercial assets with long leases worth in excess of $133 million in portfolio auctions.
